Holy Week--the culmination of Jesus’ ministry, the events leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection! All Christians need to know what went on in Jerusalem during this important week. So for our next rotation, beginning on February 28, we will focus on the events from Palm Sunday to the Resurrection.
Our theme this year is the Messiah, and we have been studying stories in which the characters and events lead us to recognize Jesus as the Messiah: David, Isaiah, the Nativity and John the Baptist. The events that happened during Holy Week also lead us to recognize Jesus as the one sent by God; from arriving in Jerusalem on a colt (Zechariah 9:9); to the soldiers gambling for his clothing (Psalm 22:13-18) to fulfill God’s plan to reconcile us to Gods self.
The activities for this rotation include art projects, using Jesus in space on the computer, seeing a movie and making an edible map of Jerusalem! We hope you join us!
Easter Egg Hunt
The Ministry of Education will host another Easter Egg Hunt this year. On Saturday, April 3, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, inside or out, you are invited to come for egg hunting, games, music, food and a cake walk! This event will be open to the public, so bring a friend to introduce them to our church family. Our event last year was a tremendous success because of all the wonderful volunteers who helped it run so smoothly. Please sign up to help; there will be a sign up sheet in Fellowship Hall-many hands make light work!
Look for more information in the April Congregator.
The “Church Mouse Computer Lab”
The new computer lab is in full swing as part of our Workshop Rotation Model Church School. Children work together in groups learning with software that is specially designed for use in a church setting. The programs typically tell the story in an interactive way and can include quizzes and games. This past fall we used the programs “Life of David” and “Fluffy & God’s Amazing Christmas Adventure.” During our Jesus’ Baptism rotation, we are using a program called “Jesus in Space.” With this program, the children visit the planet “Vet” and try to explain baptism to folks who live underwater!
We hope that this modern method of telling the good news will reach our kids in new and meaningful ways.
Church Library News
The Ministry of Christian Ed has taken a fresh look at the church library. In order to move forward, we thought it important to better state the library’s purpose. To do this, the board has adopted a new library mission statement:
The mission of the library at the Falmouth Congregational Church UCC is to provide the congregation with books, periodicals, video, and other media for the purpose of enriching the spiritual and intellectual lives of our church community.
Now that we have a mission statement, we must move forward with a plan to fulfill this mission. A new church librarian has been found; we would like to welcome Scott McLeod and thank him for volunteering for this job! A well-know bibliophile, Scott is ready to begin the task of updating our library. To work with Scott, the Ministry of Ed has created a library team. The library team will consist of the librarian, members of the board and other interested members of the church. If you are interested in being on the library team, please contact Barbara McLeod.
Using the ideas put forth by the Ministry of Ed, the library team will create goals and a strategy to reach those goals for the library. Watch for more news as we work to bring our Church library into the 21st Century!
Looking to stay up to date with Christian Education at FCC? Twitter...
How do you keep track of what is up next at church? You may refer to your Congregator or look at our Website. If you are looking for up to date information about the church school program, there is another way-Twitter! Barbara McLeod is on Twitter, “tweeting” about what’s next at church school (and church school only, no comments about what she had for breakfast!) So if you want to keep current, check out www.twitter.com/churchladybarb. If you have your own twitter account, request to follow churchladybarb, and her tweets will show up on your twitter page!
Nursery Care
Our nursery is available for babies to age three. Our nursery is staffed by caring volunteers who are church members. If you are visiting, you are welcome to bring your child to our nursery while you worship with us. To get to the nursery, exit the sanctuary at the front right, or ask an usher for help.
