Welcome to church school at
Falmouth Congregational Church United Church of Christ!
Nursery care is available. As always, children of all ages are welcome in worship.
Church School Open House
Saturday, October 18
3:00 - 4:30pm
The Ministry of Education will present a community open house on Saturday, October 18, before the bean supper. The purpose of the open house is to invite the public to visit the church and see our terrific facilities and learn more about our Christian education opportunities. We will be advertising this open house in as many venues as we can. From the nursery to the youth group room, we want everyone to know about our program!
What can you do? Invite your friends and neighbors to come! Studies show the most common reason a person comes to church is that they have been invited. Bring a friend and stay for the bean supper
For more information, contact someone from the Ministry of Christian Education.
Church school began on September 7 with family worship and an ice cream social after worship. Classes began on September 14. Please bring your church school registration or you can fill one out at church.
We look forward to seeing you for a great year of workshop rotation!
Preschool Class Begins
In September we began with the unit-Be Brave! David Trusts God. The preschool class will be learning how to trust God, face their fears, and be brave just as David trusted God and faced the fearsome Goliath.
New for This Fall: The Jesus Doll
Beginning this fall, families will be able to “bring Jesus home” for a week! The Jesus doll is a 25” high, soft, huggable reminder of God’s love for us. Your week with Jesus will give you and your children of all ages an opportunity to discuss what Jesus would do in your home, how Jesus would want us to behave, how he would be loving in any given situation - the opportunities to discuss Jesus at home are many!
You will be given a journal to bring home with the Jesus doll so your child/children can record (with parents help) their thoughts and experiences with Jesus. Children are encouraged to write and draw pictures of their time with Jesus. This journal will go with Jesus as he travels throughout the congregation.
We will ask for volunteers to bring Jesus home during the children’s time in worship.
How will you prepare your home to receive Jesus?

The Exodus Story
(September 14-October 12)
During this rotation we will focus on the Hebrew people's time in Egypt, the plagues, the institution of the Passover, and their Exodus from Egypt. These stories begin in Exodus 1:8 with the words, "Now a new king arose over Egypt who did not know Joseph..." and end with the account of the crossing of the Red Sea at the end of Exodus 15. This saga can be summed up in the formula, "God hears, God remembers, God sees and God acts." The children will learn more about about this story through the following workshops:

New Rotation Feature-The Faith Mentoring Workshop
Beginning with our first rotation, The Exodus Story, we will add a new feature: the Faith Mentoring Workshop. For one workshop during some rotations, we will ask that a parent accompany their child to that workshop. The workshop will offer a chance for parents to talk with their child about the lesson and their faith. For this first rotation, The Exodus Story, the art workshop will be a Faith Mentoring Workshop. Please look at the schedule to see when your child will be attending the art workshop and plan to join him or her. Other family members, such as grandparents, etc. are welcome to be your child’s faith mentor for this rotation. If you have any questions about this, please contact Barbara McLeod.

Feeding the 5000
Upcoming Rotation: October 19-November 23
A new rotation begins on Sunday, October 19. This story is found in John 6:1-14. As the children learn the story, they will see when we use our resources (time, talent, treasure,) God will bless them and increase them, and as Jesus meets our needs, we have a responsibility to see that the needs of others are met. We will be looking at how resources are unevenly distributed in the world, and how we can work to take care of our neighbors. Here is what will be going on in all the different workshops.
Art Workshop: the kids will make gyotaku prints on t-shirts, a Japanese printing process using fish to explore the story of the five loaves and two fish. Please send in a white t-shirt with your child.
Cooking workshop: A simple fish chowder and bread will be prepared and shared with members of the congregation or others in need.
Theatre: We will show a movie about the story.
Drama Workshop: The children will experience a variety of activities that build awareness of the uneven distribution of resources in the world and how this contributes to world hunger.
Bible skills workshop: The kids will take a field trip to the new Falmouth Food pantry to learn how we can help people right here in our community. Throw in our “Can-tastic” canned food drive, and we have a full plate of activities (pun intended!)
A “Can-tastic” Contest!
Classes will compete to see which one can bring in the most canned goods to be donated to the new Falmouth Food Pantry each week. Please note: canned fruits, vegetables and fruit juice are what’s needed. Children should bring canned goods in each week and parents can help by reminding children to bring in their donation of cans.
