HOLLY DAYS FAIR,  SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2008

Holly Days Fair is our largest fund-raising event for the church budget. Do you have suggestions or ideas you have seen at other successful fairs to pass on to us? Please share your ideas.
There are a few committees with vacant spots for chairpersons. Would you volunteer to lead a committee? Many, many helpers are needed to staff our various committees. Please save the date, smile, and willingly give the church your time and talents during fair week.

White Elephant
Are you doing fall cleaning? Set aside those unused items for the White
Elephant Rooms. We are accepting donations in good condition and in working order from now until Wednesday,
November 19, of fair week, no exceptions. Please no computers, heavy bulky items, or melting ice sculptures. (c:

Lobster Stew
We need four able bodied workers to help in the kitchen the day of the fair. You’ll be standing and stirring large, hot kettles of stew. Please contact Kathy Smith at 781-5597.

Jewelry Donations Needed
Please donate costume jewelry now; this allows time for sorting, packaging and pricing. Drop off donations at the church office or directly to Phoebe Horne.

Candy
Large lidded glass jars, such as iced tea or instant coffee containers are needed for packaging party mix. Please leave them in the church office.

Wreaths

Spruce cones
Scotch pine cones
(short and fat)
Red winterberries
Rosehips
Wire coat hangers

Do you know a good source for holly clippings, red winterberries or cones? They are used for decorating wreaths. Are you willing to let your creative juices flow and help during fair week with attaching bows, cones, and trim to wreaths? Are you able to fashion large bows? These can be made at home ahead of time. Ribbon and bow making instruction will be provided, contact Janet Christopher at pajschristopher@hotmail.com.

Fishing Gear
A large collection of fishing equipment, new and nearly new, will be offered in a space separate from the White Elephant for the 2008 fair. If you have items to
donate to this category of men’s wannahaves, contact Dick Anderson.

Centerpieces
Soon we will provide more details about our table decorations for the dining room. Our 7th & 8th grade youth will be helping with this project. Can you donate balsam or evergreen clippings for us to use for this project?

Please drop off your leftover Halloween candy for the gingerbread houses.

Holly Days Fair committees will be communicating by e-mails. Let us know if you want to be included in the loop. Also, watch for information, requests, and sign up sheets on the jolly, Holly Days Fair poster board in Fellowship Hall.

The Silent Auction form is in the back of this
Congregator. Donations of items; special meals, gift certificates, donate services, gift baskets or something new or different are appreciated.

Thanks.

Eunice Wilcox, Chair

Church Kitchen
Please have a look and take home your casserole dishes and pie plates from our bean suppers. It is important to keep our kitchen clutter free and neat. This space is used by other groups and weekly by our church school classes. Thank you.

Recycling

Go green and use the recycling bin in the kitchen for clean glass or plastic containers or cardboard. Recycled returnable bottles and cans are appreciated and were used last year to cover Sewing Ministry expenses.

Bean Suppers remaining for 2008:

October 18

Bean Supper Captain

We hold five suppers a year and would welcome someone being in charge to oversee the operation. The office keeps an updated bean supper packet and distributes it to the hosting ministry chair. This packet contains all the information needed, but a captain would provide some continuity and assistance to the host.

Anne Gilbert is the chair of the bean supper callers and does a great job!

Please contact the church office if you are interested at 781-3413.

eBay Auction
The Ministry of Stewardship will be hosting an eBay auction this spring to benefit the church. Anyone able to donate items suitable for auctioning on eBay (small is better than large, rare is better than common, something easy enough to ship) should contact the church office or Jim Whiting..

Garden Ministry
The Garden Ministry could use lots of helpers over the summer months, and some new ideas for sprucing up the beds. Please let Linda Gouws know you are interested by contacting her or calling the church office.

Planning for the Fair - Canned Goods Table Help Needed

The popularity of our merchandise has grown. The past three years we have sold out of merchandise before the fair ended, without having to reduce prices. We've seen a huge decline in the number of people donating jams, jellies, pickles and other canned goods to the fair table.

We also understand that many younger church members may not know how to can, and may be worried about doing it right. Never fear, it is much easier than you could imagine!

So, in order to continue this traditional fair table, we are looking for a few more good men or women who would like to learn how to preserve the summer's bounty. We are confident that you will find the process easy and very rewarding. You'll also love having those shiny jars in your pantry come next winter to impress your family and friends! We would be happy to have you join us at one of our "jammin' parties", or we could just walk you through the process. We typically do strawberry jam and jelly in late June; raspberry in mid-July, and salsa, relishes and pickles in August and September.

If you are unable to participate in canning, but have a vegetable garden or berry patch that yields more produce than you can consume fresh, please consider donating some to us at the appropriate time. We would also appreciate donations of sugar and canning jars.

Please contact us if you are able to help out the Jammin' Crew this year.
